The inspections have all gone well, now we’re waiting on the appraisal I guess. I’m so clueless about the whole house buying process. Most of what little I do know is from HGTV. I haven’t gotten much packing done yet, 3 boxes is all. But I have a plan for next week. Our closing date is 4 weeks from today, so each week I’m going to focus on an area of the house, so that hopefully everything is packed up by closing so we can hopefully move that weekend. It’d be perfect for me since it’s in the middle of my week stretch off I get every 6 weeks. Plus, it’s a little over a week before the baby’s first birthday. That way we could have her party in the new house the weekend before her birthday. So excited to have a home where I’ll actually want to have people over. Thinking about even hosting a playgroup for people with babies that I know. Would be nice to get together with other moms and let the babies play together, maybe expend some of their endless energy!

Really isn’t much new to talk about. This week was the state fair where we live, which I always look forward to. Although I actually didn’t eat as much as I had anticipated. The only weird fried item I tried was fried pineapple, which was pretty good. Tasted like apple pie, which was a little weird. Took the kids on the day they didn’t have school and let them do the ride a rama. For the first time ever I actually let them go off on their own, the oldest had a friend with him. Went pretty well, was a little nervous, but they were good about checking in with me when they were supposed to.

Guess I’ll keep this post short since I can’t come up with much to say. Probably a hundred other things I should be doing right now anyway, especially since I work this weekend.

New Home on the Horizon

I’ve been living in the same duplex for over 5 years now. It’s pretty nice as far as rentals go, especially considering what’s available in this town. I look around every once in awhile. Recently actually applied for a 4 bedroom place that I was really excited about and had high hopes for. But we never got the call I was hoping for. So, I was disappointed. So, I decided to go ahead and apply for a home loan, not having very high hopes since we don’t have anything to put down on a home. That’s when I found out about the Rural Development loan program. Basically as long as we found a house outside of our current city’s limits we could get approved for a pretty decent loan. So, we started looking in some of the rural communities surrounding us. Went to the one I grew up in, and the house we looked at was ok, but it came with over 2 acres, and we really don’t need that kind of land, would just mean more to get overgrown since we don’t have the time for that kind of upkeep. So, then we started looking in the small town across the river from our current one, and thought that would be perfect. Still really close to our workplaces, but definitely more of a small town feel. We looked at a couple of houses there and I fell in love with the last one. It’s an old 2 story build in 1910, that’s had a lot of updating done to it. It has an enclosed porch, which is one of my favorite parts of it. Plus it has 2 stairways that meet at a landing halfway up, then just one that goes up the rest of the way. Has a foyer (always wanted a house with an actual entry way) that even comes with a bench! Basically, it has tons of character which I love, but most of the work in it has been done already. About the only thing I would really want to change would be to put in new windows. But that will be expensive so we’ll have to see if and when we could afford it. The kitchen and bathrooms have all been remodeled. A laundry room has been put in. It has hard flooring throughout except for in the bonus room and on the stairs. The hardwood floors downstairs are so unique. They have a rectangle pattern and I just love them. So, needless to say, I started getting a little excited!

So, we decided to go ahead and put in an offer that evening. And the next day, it was accepted!! We have the inspection this week, so as long as that goes well and there aren’t any issues with the financing we should hopefully be moving into our first house in a month or two! I’m really excited, had started to wonder if we would ever be able to buy a home. My husband is even excited although he doesn’t show it much. He says that if he acts excited it gets me too excited and makes him nervous, lol. I just can’t wait to move in. To get out of this duplex. It’s an ok place, but we share our garage and our backyard. So we have to put our dog on a chain, instead of let her run in the yard. It’s a little weird being in the garage at the same time as the neighbors. We also share the basement, which is again, weird. Plus, we have to rely on our landlord for repairs. Granted, it’s nice not having to worry about the cost of them, but at the same time I think I’d rather be able to get it done on my time table instead of someone else’s. And then I can’t wait for the hard floors. I’m so sick of our carpet. It’s so stained and I swear I’ve tried about every cleaner on the market and nothing works. Why landlord’s put in light colored carpet is beyond me. I suppose it’s so they can keep deposits.

That’s what’s new for us. I’m slowly trying to get organized and declutter before the move. Figure it’s best to start early since I have a 10 month old who loves to get into everything. So my goal is to pack a box a day on my days off during the week. Guess I should get off the computer and get busy then.
